Classic Recipe

• Hook Standard nymph hook, 12-16
• Thread Brown or black 8/0

Materials

• Bead Oversized tungsten copper bead (1)
• Tail Dark hare's mask guard hairs (1 small bunch)
• Body Arizona Synthetic dark hare's ear dubbing (pinch)
• Rib Fine copper wire or gold tinsel (1)
• Legs Grizzly rubber legs (1 pair)
• Wingcase Dark wingcase material coated with epoxy/UV resin (1)
• Thorax Arizona Synthetic dark hare's ear dubbing (pinch)

How to tie it

1. Slide an oversized tungsten copper bead to the eye and start thread. Tie in a fine wire rib and a short tail of dark hare's guard hairs at the bend.
2. Dub a shaggy dark hare's ear body forward to the 60% mark, keeping it buggy.
3. Counter-rib with the wire in 4-5 open turns for durability and a hint of flash.
4. Tie in a dark wingcase strip pointing rearward and add grizzly rubber legs to each side of the thorax.
5. Dub a fuller dark hare's ear thorax behind the bead.
6. Pull the wingcase forward over the thorax, tie off, then coat it with epoxy or UV resin for a glossy, durable shellback. Whip finish.
