Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry fly, 14-18
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Body Apple-green (bright olive) superfine dubbing (Slim)
  • Hackle Ginger or grizzly rooster (1, palmered)
  • Wing Light natural deer/elk hair (1 clump)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook, start thread at the eye, and run it to the bend.
  2. Tie in a ginger hackle by the tip at the bend.
  3. Dub a slim apple-green body forward to the 75% mark.
  4. Palmer the hackle forward through the body in 5-6 open turns and tie off.
  5. Clean and stack a small clump of light elk hair, measure the tips to reach the bend, and bind it down at the 75% mark with tight wraps.
  6. Lift the butts, take firm wraps to flare them, then trim the butts to a short upright head.
  7. Whip finish behind the eye.
