Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet, 10-14
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Red floss (short)
  • Body Black chenille (full)
  • Hackle Grizzly, palmered (full)
  • Head Fl. red thread (built up)

How to tie it

  1. Start black thread at the bend and tie in a short tag of red floss extending just past the bend.
  2. Tie in a grizzly hackle by its tip at the bend, then tie in the black chenille.
  3. Wrap the chenille forward to form a full body, stopping short of the eye, and tie off.
  4. Palmer the grizzly hackle forward through the body in evenly spaced turns and tie off behind the eye.
  5. Switch to fluorescent red thread and build up a distinct hot red head.
  6. Whip finish and cement the head.
