Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1X-long nymph (TMC 5262), 10-18
  • Thread Tan/brown 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Moose body fibers (6-8 fibers)
  • Rib Fine copper wire (1 strand)
  • Abdomen & thorax Natural beaver/muskrat dubbing (or dyed) (Tapered)
  • Wing case & legs Moose body hair (1 clump)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook, start thread, and run to the bend.
  2. Tie in 6-8 moose body fibers as a tail, a shank length long, and bind in the copper wire.
  3. Dub a tapered beaver abdomen to the 60% mark.
  4. Rib the copper wire forward in 5-6 open, even turns and snip.
  5. Tie in a clump of moose body hair pointing forward over the eye, this single bunch becomes both the wing case and the legs.
  6. Dub a fatter thorax to just behind the eye.
  7. Pull the moose clump back over the thorax as a wing case, bind it down, then split the butts to each side as legs sweeping to the point.
  8. Build a thread head, whip finish, and snip.
