Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved emerger (TMC 2487), 14-20
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Tail/shuck Moose body fibers or brown antron (Few fibers)
  • Rib Copper wire (1 strand)
  • Abdomen Tan-brown natural (muskrat/beaver) dubbing (Thin)
  • Wing Light dun CDC (1 short tuft)
  • Thorax Darker natural dubbing (Small pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the curved hook, start thread, and run to the bend.
  2. Tie in a few moose fibers as a short tail/shuck and bind in the copper wire.
  3. Dub a tapered tan-brown abdomen to the 60% mark.
  4. Counter-rib the copper wire forward in 5-6 open turns and snip.
  5. Tie in a short CDC wing tuft standing over the thorax at the 65% mark.
  6. Dub a fuller, darker thorax around the wing, then pick out a few fibers on the underside for legs.
  7. Whip finish at the eye.
