Materials
- Tail Black ostrich herl (black squirrel guard hairs)
- Body Black ostrich herl (black squirrel dubbing)
- Wingcase Dark wingcase strip (pulled-over guard hairs or dubbing)
- Legs Black ostrich herl (wingcase fibers picked out)
How to tie it
- Start thread behind the eye and lay a base to the point above the barb.
- Tie in a small bunch of black squirrel guard hairs as a tail about one hook-gap long.
- Reserve the butts of the tail fibers pointing forward, then dub a slim body over the rear two-thirds.
- Dub a slightly fuller thorax up to the eye.
- Pull the reserved guard hairs forward over the thorax as a wingcase and tie down, then divide a few fibers to each side as legs.
- Form a small head and whip finish.
