Tyer Recipe

  • Hook 1XL nymph, 12-16
  • Thread black 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Black ostrich herl (black squirrel guard hairs)
  • Body Black ostrich herl (black squirrel dubbing)
  • Wingcase Dark wingcase strip (pulled-over guard hairs or dubbing)
  • Legs Black ostrich herl (wingcase fibers picked out)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread behind the eye and lay a base to the point above the barb.
  2. Tie in a small bunch of black squirrel guard hairs as a tail about one hook-gap long.
  3. Reserve the butts of the tail fibers pointing forward, then dub a slim body over the rear two-thirds.
  4. Dub a slightly fuller thorax up to the eye.
  5. Pull the reserved guard hairs forward over the thorax as a wingcase and tie down, then divide a few fibers to each side as legs.
  6. Form a small head and whip finish.
