Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved emerger/nymph (TMC 2487), 20-24
  • Thread Olive 70 denier

Materials

  • Body Stripped natural peacock quill (1)
  • Thorax Natural fox spiky squirrel dubbing (Tiny pinch)
  • Wing Medium slate dun CDC (1 short clump)
  • Sighter UV orange trigger point fibers (Few strands)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the small curved hook, start thread, and run a smooth thread base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a stripped peacock quill by its tip at the bend.
  3. Wrap the quill forward in tight, touching turns to the 60% mark for a crisp, segmented body; tie off and snip.
  4. Counter-coat the quill with a thin layer of UV resin or head cement so the fragile body survives fish teeth.
  5. Stack a short CDC wing at the 60% mark with a few UV-orange fibers over it, post upright, and split into a shallow V.
  6. Dub a small natural-fox squirrel thorax around the wing base.
  7. Whip finish at the eye.
