Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 2 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved emerger/nymph (TMC 2487), 20-24
  • Thread Olive 70 denier

Materials

  • Body Stripped natural peacock quill (1)
  • Thorax Natural fox spiky squirrel dubbing (Tiny pinch)
  • Wing/post Bright UV orange Trigger Point / hi-vis fibers (1 taller clump)
  • Under-wing Medium slate dun CDC (1 short clump)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the small curved hook, start thread, and lay a smooth base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a stripped peacock quill by its tip at the bend.
  3. Wrap the quill forward in tight, touching turns to the 60% mark for a segmented body; tie off and snip, then seal with a thin coat of UV resin.
  4. Stack a short slate-dun CDC under-wing at the 60% mark, then add a taller, brighter clump of UV-orange hi-vis fibers on top and post the whole wing upright.
  5. Dub a small natural-fox squirrel thorax around the post base to lock the wing standing.
  6. Whip finish at the eye and leave the hi-vis post tall for visibility.
