Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved emerger (TMC 2487), 16-20
  • Thread Olive 70 denier

Materials

  • Body Blue-winged-olive superfine dubbing (Thin)
  • Thorax Natural gray spiky squirrel dubbing (Small pinch)
  • Wing Medium slate dun CDC (1 short clump)
  • Sighter UV orange trigger point fibers (Few strands)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the curved emerger hook, start thread, and run to the bend. No tail, so the back end hangs in the film like a struggling nymph.
  2. Dub a slim BWO body from the bend forward to the 65% mark.
  3. Stack a short clump of medium dun CDC as a wing, then lay a few UV-orange Trigger Point fibers over it as a built-in sighter.
  4. Bind both down at the 65% mark and post them upright with a couple of thread wraps around the base.
  5. Dub a spiky natural-gray squirrel thorax around and in front of the wing, figure-8ing to keep it standing.
  6. Whip finish at the eye and trim the wing/sighter to a stub just past vertical.
