Antonio's Emerger PMD

Dry Fly · Emerger · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Curved emerger hook (TMC 2487), 16-18
  • Thread Pale yellow or tan UTC 70 (or 12/0)

Materials

  • Body Wapsi Super Fine dry-fly dubbing, PMD/pale yellow (pinch)
  • Thorax SLF Spikey Squirrel dubbing, natural gray (pinch)
  • Wing Nature's Spirit CDC, medium dun (1 clump)
  • Sighter EP Trigger Point fibers, UV orange (small bundle)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread mid-shank on the curved hook; tie this emerger with no tail so it rides trapped in the film like a hatching PMD.
  2. Dub a slim PMD-colored Super Fine body down around the bend and forward to the 60% mark.
  3. Tie in a clump of medium dun CDC as a low emerger wing.
  4. Split the CDC into two wings with a small bundle of UV orange Trigger Point fibers, forming a hi-vis sight spot.
  5. Dub a gray Spikey Squirrel thorax around the wing base for a buggy emerging profile.
  6. Whip finish and cement lightly; float only the wing.
