Reference Recipe
- Hook Standard dry fly (TMC 900BL / 100SP-BL), 12-18
- Thread Gray 18/0
Materials
- Tail Coq de Leon fibers (Small bunch)
- Rib Extra-small copper wire (1 strand)
- Abdomen/thorax Natural gray CDC fiber dubbing (Thin)
- Sighter Fire-orange Fluoro Fibre (Few strands)
- Wing Natural gray CDC fibers (1 clump)
How to tie it
- Mount the hook, start thread, and run it to the bend.
- Tie in a small bunch of Coq de Leon fibers as a tail, splayed about a shank length long.
- Bind in the copper wire, then spin loose CDC fluff onto the thread as dubbing and wrap a slim abdomen to the 60% mark.
- Counter-wrap the wire rib forward in 5-6 turns for segmentation and durability; snip.
- Stack a clump of natural gray CDC upright as a wing at the 65% mark, then bind a few fire-orange Fluoro Fibre strands in front as a low sighter.
- Dub a small CDC thorax around the wing base, figure-8ing to stand the wing up.
- Whip finish at the eye and trim the sighter to a short stub.
