Dry Fly · Trout · Grayling · Intermediate · 2 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry fly (TMC 900BL / 100SP-BL), 16-22
  • Thread Olive 18/0

Materials

  • Tail Dun or Coq de Leon fibers (Small bunch)
  • Rib Extra-small copper wire (1 strand)
  • Abdomen/thorax Olive (BWO) CDC fiber dubbing (Thin)
  • Sighter UV orange Fluoro Fibre (Few strands)
  • Wing Medium dun CDC fibers (1 clump)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook, start thread, and run it to the bend.
  2. Tie in a small bunch of dun fibers as a tail, about a shank length long.
  3. Bind in the copper wire, spin olive CDC fluff onto the thread as dubbing, and wrap a slim BWO abdomen to the 60% mark.
  4. Counter-wrap the wire rib forward in 5-6 turns and snip.
  5. Post a clump of medium dun CDC upright at the 65% mark and add a few UV-orange sighter strands in front.
  6. Dub a small CDC thorax around the wing base, figure-8ing to stand the wing.
  7. Whip finish and trim the sighter short.
