Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry fly, 14-20
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Body Black thread/dubbing under UV resin (Two segments)
  • Legs Black hackle fibers (3-4 per side)
  • Indicator Orange foam or para-post (1 dot, optional)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the bend.
  2. Build a rounded rear ball (gaster) with tight thread wraps or a pinch of black dubbing over the back third, stopping at the 40% mark to leave a distinct waist.
  3. Coat the rear ball with UV resin and cure to a hard gloss.
  4. At the waist, tie in a few black hackle fibers splayed to each side as legs, spanning about a hook gap.
  5. Build the front ball (head) with thread over the front third, keeping the waist pinched thin between the two lumps.
  6. Optionally lash a tiny orange foam dot on top for visibility, then coat the head ball with UV resin and cure.
  7. Whip finish at the eye.
