How to tie it
Lay a thread base back to just behind the hook eye, then run it to the rear.
Clean and stack a small bunch of roe deer hair and tie it in as a tail one body-length long, taking one wrap over the top then another between the hook and the hair to keep it centered on top of the shank.
Keeping tension, spiral the thread back over the deer hair toward the bend, then tie it down securely without crushing the buoyant fibers, and return the thread forward.
Tie in a brown hackle standing 90 degrees to the shank, bind the stem down the body and bring the thread back up front.
Dub a loose olive superfine noodle and wrap a full-bodied taper forward, finishing tight behind the eye.
Palmer the hackle forward in open, fairly sparse turns, tie it off behind the eye, and whip finish.
Trim the hackle flat on the underside so the fly sits low, leaving the body length intact.
