Tyer Recipe

  • Hook 4x-long streamer base hook with stinger, #6 (base), #2 octopus (stinger)
  • Thread Red 6/0

Materials

  • Monofilament 20 lb test (Stinger loop)
  • Rabbit fur Black and red rabbit fur (1 clump (tail))
  • Schlappen Black saddle hackle (1 feather, 3-4 wraps (first collar))
  • Schlappen Red saddle hackle fibers (1 feather, 5 wraps (second collar))
  • Guinea fowl Natural partridge (1 feather (head hackle))

How to tie it

  1. Secure the size 2 octopus stinger hook to the size 6 base hook with a loop of 20 lb test, lashing it down the shank with red thread.
  2. Tie in a clump of mixed black and red rabbit fur at the rear for the tail.
  3. Tie in a black schlappen feather and take 3-4 wraps as the first collar; tie off and trim.
  4. Tie in a red schlappen feather in front of the black and take about 5 wraps as the second collar; tie off and trim.
  5. Tie in a natural guinea feather and wrap as many turns as needed for a spotted front hackle; tie off.
  6. Build up a neat red thread head, whip finish, and apply head cement.
