Materials
Eyes Yellow dumbbell eyes (1 pair)
Tail/hackle Black over yellow (or red/black, purple/black) saddle hackles (4-6, paired)
Flash Black and gold Flashabou (6-8 strands per side)
Collar Peacock herl (3-4 strands)
Head/wing Yellow and black bucktail (2 sparse clumps)
How to tie it
Mount the hook, start thread mid-shank, and lash the dumbbell eyes on top a couple of gaps back from the eye with tight figure-8s and a drop of superglue.
At the bend, tie in two matched pairs of saddle hackles splayed slightly outward, flaring the tips a shank-and-a-half past the bend for a long, breathing tail.
Frame the hackles with 6-8 strands of Flashabou on each side, then wrap 3-4 peacock herls as a collar just ahead of the tie-in.
Stack a sparse clump of yellow bucktail top and bottom in front of the collar, half the bulk you think, to fill the transition.
Move ahead of the eyes and tie a fuller black bucktail collar all the way around, sweeping it back to the hook point; keep the head area clean.
Build a smooth thread head, whip finish, and coat with UV resin or head cement.
