Tail Pheasant tail fibers (3-4)
Body Pheasant tail fibers (3-4)
Rib Copper wire, small (1)
Wingcase Pheasant tail fibers (3-4)
Thorax Peacock herl (2-3)
Legs Pheasant tail fiber tips (from wingcase) (reserved)
How to tie it
Optional: slide a bead to the eye. Start thread and tie in a small copper wire rib at the bend.
Tie in a small bunch of pheasant tail fibers by the tips at the bend for a tail about one-third shank length.
Wrap the same fibers forward to the 60% mark to form the abdomen, then counter-wrap the copper wire forward in 4-5 open turns and tie off; counter-wrapping protects the fragile herl from trout teeth.
Tie in a new bunch of pheasant tail fibers by the tips pointing rearward to form the wingcase.
Wrap 2-3 peacock herls forward to build a plump thorax and tie off.
Pull the wingcase fibers over the thorax and tie down behind the eye.
Split the remaining wingcase tips to each side as legs, or fold and trim; whip finish and cement.
