- Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 14-18
- Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)
Materials
- Body Black 2mm foam (one strip, two segments)
- Hackle Black cock (1-2 turns at the waist)
- Sighter Orange foam (small tuft, optional)
- Legs Black micro rubber (one pair, optional)
How to tie it
- Mount a dry-fly hook and start black thread.
- Bind a strip of black foam at the bend, fold it forward to form the rear gaster and pinch it off with thread at mid-shank.
- Take one or two turns of black cock hackle at the waist for legs.
- Pull the foam forward again to build the front hump and head, and tie it down behind the eye.
- Optionally add a tuft of orange foam on top as a sighter.
- Whip finish under the foam head and trim clean.
