How to tie it
- Mount a salmon single or double and start thread, running to the bend.
- Tie in a long sweep of hot orange bucktail as the tail, about 1.5 shank lengths; the flowing tail is this pattern's signature.
- Tie in oval gold tinsel for the rib.
- Dub the rear half of the body hot orange, then the front half black.
- Spiral the gold rib forward over the whole body in 5-6 even turns and tie off.
- Tie a hot orange hackle as a swept-back throat.
- Set a slip of bronze mallard low over the back as the wing, reaching the tail root.
- Build a neat head, whip finish and varnish.
