Salmon/Steelhead · Shrimp · Salmon · Intermediate · 1 version

Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Plastic/alloy tube with trailing treble or single
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Hot orange bucktail (long, about twice tube length)
  • Rear body Red floss or Globrite (rear half)
  • Front body Black floss (front half)
  • Rib Oval silver tinsel (over whole body)
  • Wing Grey squirrel tail (sparse over body)
  • Hackle Hot orange cock hackle (collar)

How to tie it

  1. Mount tube in the vise and start thread at the front.
  2. Tie in a sparse bunch of hot orange bucktail at the rear so it extends about two tube-lengths beyond the tube as a long tail.
  3. Tie in oval silver rib at the rear, then build the rear half of the body with red floss.
  4. Continue the front half of the body with black floss and spiral the silver rib forward over both sections; tie off.
  5. Tie a sparse grey squirrel-tail wing over the top, roughly to the end of the tail.
  6. Wind a hot orange cock hackle as a soft collar and stroke the fibers back.
  7. Form a small neat head and whip finish.
