Wrap 10-12 turns of 0.015 wire on the shank for Weight. Start the Red thread, dam behind the wire, run over it, dam in front, then take the thread back to the bend.
Wrap a short flat red thread tag at the bend. Spin the bobbin against the twist a few turns first so the thread flattens - every wrap adds a twist, so re-spin as you go.
Pull 8-10 Partridge fibers from a small feather and bind them in as a wispy Tail, about one hook gap long or a touch shorter. Bind the butts up to the weight.
Catch in the Copper wire for the Rib and advance the thread a couple of millimetres.
Snip the brittle tips off two strands of Peacock herl and bind them in, wrapping back to the tail. Hang the thread at mid-body.
Wrap both herls forward in touching turns, one right in front of the other, up to the hanging thread and on to just in front of the weight - the thread keeps the herls from spreading. Lock with a couple of wraps and snip.
Counter-wrap the copper rib forward in 4-5 turns to lock the herl in. Tie off with two tight wraps, fold the wire forward, add a couple more, then helicopter it off. Check for a sharp stub; bury it with a couple of loose wraps if there is one.
Take a tiny Partridge feather, strip the fluff, grip it by the tip and pull the fibers back. Catch the tip in with two wraps, fold the tip back and lock it with a few more, then snip the tip. Put a couple of extra wraps forward that can be backed off later.
Sweep the fibers back and wrap two turns of hackle, one in front of the other. Back the thread off to meet the hackle, secure with two wraps, and snip the excess.
Push the fibers back with a few rearward wraps, then build a big red head - the hard shiny head is the fly's hot spot. Whip finish, cut the tag tight, and coat the head with one or two drops of UV resin, spin to smooth, and cure 10-15 seconds.
