All Season Scud

Reference Recipe
- Hook Curved scud/emerger hook, 12-18
- Thread Gray 8/0 (70 denier)
Materials
- Underbody weight Lead-free wire (few wraps, optional)
- Body Gray/olive scud dubbing (plump, tapered)
- Shellback Clear scud back / plastic strip (one strip)
- Rib Fine copper wire (5-6 turns)
How to tie it
- Mount a curved scud hook and start thread; optionally add a few wraps of lead-free wire under the thorax.
- At the bend, tie in a strip of clear scud back and a length of fine copper wire.
- Dub a plump, tapered body forward to the eye, following the curve of the hook.
- Pull the shellback over the top and hold it at the eye.
- Counter-wrap the wire forward in 5-6 turns to segment the body and bind the shellback, then helicopter off.
- Whip finish, then pick out dubbing along the belly for legs.
