Start the Brown thread and lay a base back to the start of the bend.
Snip a good-sized clump of Squirrel body fur from the zonker strip and bind it in at the bend for the Tail. Check the length before locking it down, then bury the butts - the lump does not matter under a fat body.
Dub a fairly tight noodle of Squirrel dubbing and wrap a buggy body forward to just behind the eye.
Form a dubbing loop about four inches long and wax one side. Snip a short section of the zonker strip, lay it in the loop with the fur tips slightly longer than the underfur, pinch the loop closed on it, then carefully cut the hide away so only the fur is trapped between the two threads.
Slide the trapped fur up close to the hook so there is no bare thread before the first wrap, then spin the loop 30-40 times until it forms a thick brush that will not shed fibers.
Grip the brush in hackle pliers and wrap it forward like a feather hackle for the Collar - two or three full turns depending on hook size, re-spinning if it starts to unwind.
Catch the brush off with a couple of thread wraps and snip the excess.
Lick your fingers, sweep the collar fibers back, and build a small ramped head back to the eye - just enough to hold a whip finish.
Whip finish with four or five turns, then brush out any trapped underfur with a dubbing brush.
