Start black thread and run a smooth base to the bend.
Tie in a small slip of red duck quill as a short tail, pointing straight back.
Catch in flat silver tinsel at the tail, wrap thread forward, then wrap the tinsel forward in smooth touching turns to build a bright body and tie off one eye-length behind the eye.
Tie in a bunch of peacock sword fibers as a wing over the body, tips reaching just past the bend. The all-sword wing is the signature flash.
Add a thin slip of red quill low along each side of the wing.
Tie in black hen fibers as a beard under the throat, sweeping back toward the point.
Build a small head, whip finish, and cement.
