Reference Recipe
- Hook Short-shank scud/nymph hook (e.g. Daiichi 2450), 8-12
- Thread Gray 6/0 (140 denier)
Materials
- Bead Orange/pink plastic or gold (4mm)
- Body Silver minnow-belly Laser Yarn (thin)
- Rib Silver wire (4-5 turns)
- Wing/topping Light olive ice dub (sparse)
- Yolk sac Hot orange egg yarn (small ball underneath)
- Eyes Silver 3-D molded (5/32 pair)
How to tie it
- Slide the bead to the eye, mount the hook and start gray thread.
- Tie in silver wire, then wrap a thin silver body forward to behind the bead.
- Counter-wrap the wire in 4-5 turns for a fish-scale flash and tie off.
- Tie a sparse light-olive ice-dub topping over the back, shank length.
- Add a small ball of hot orange egg yarn on the underside as the yolk sac.
- Set molded eyes low on each side with figure-8 wraps.
- Build a head behind the bead and whip finish.
