Reference Recipe

  • Hook Short-shank scud/nymph hook (e.g. Daiichi 2450), 8-12
  • Thread Gray 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Orange/pink plastic or gold (4mm)
  • Body Silver minnow-belly Laser Yarn (thin)
  • Rib Silver wire (4-5 turns)
  • Wing/topping Light olive ice dub (sparse)
  • Yolk sac Hot orange egg yarn (small ball underneath)
  • Eyes Silver 3-D molded (5/32 pair)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the bead to the eye, mount the hook and start gray thread.
  2. Tie in silver wire, then wrap a thin silver body forward to behind the bead.
  3. Counter-wrap the wire in 4-5 turns for a fish-scale flash and tie off.
  4. Tie a sparse light-olive ice-dub topping over the back, shank length.
  5. Add a small ball of hot orange egg yarn on the underside as the yolk sac.
  6. Set molded eyes low on each side with figure-8 wraps.
  7. Build a head behind the bead and whip finish.
