Reference Recipe

  • Hook Short-shank scud/nymph hook (e.g. TMC 2457), 12-14
  • Thread Gray 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Body Silver/pearl Laser Yarn (thin belly)
  • Back/topping Gray marabou or peacock ice dub (sparse)
  • Yolk sac Hot orange egg yarn (small ball underneath)
  • Eyes Silver holographic ice dub (1/8 in pair)

How to tie it

  1. Mount a short-shank hook and start gray thread.
  2. Wrap a slim silver/pearl body forward to just short of the eye.
  3. On top, tie in a sparse length of gray marabou or peacock ice dub back the length of the shank as a translucent topping.
  4. Underneath, at mid-shank, tie in a small ball of hot orange egg yarn; the yolk sac is the trigger.
  5. Set small holographic eyes low on each side with figure-8 wraps.
  6. Build a small head and whip finish; keep everything sparse so it stays translucent and drifts naturally.
