Materials
Body Medium vinyl tubing, 1 inch
Body filler Gray Antron yarn (about 3 inches) with three strands of pearl flash
Egg sac Bright orange Ultra Chenille
Eyes Prismatic stick-on eyes
Head finish Aqua Seal
How to tie it
Lay a foundation of thread on the hook.
Cut a one inch length of vinyl tubing and slot it onto a threader cleaner.
Combine about three inches of gray Antron yarn with three strands of pearl flash, lick it so it sticks together, thread it through the cleaner and bend it over halfway along.
Slide the vinyl tubing up over the loop to pull it onto the body filler, then cut the assembly off the cleaner; one end is the tail and the other the dorsal fin.
Put the body on the hook with a series of soft loops, getting gradually tighter toward the front.
Fold the material back, take a few wraps, then walk the thread up onto the vinyl tubing and back part to where it was tied on, and return to the head.
Snip the dorsal fin to about an eighth of an inch.
Strip an inch and a half of Ultra Chenille to expose the core at both ends, fold it into a loop for the egg sac, and tie it in underneath like a throat hackle; snip off the end of the core.
Build up the head with many thread wraps.
Snip the tops off the stick-on eyes if too big, set them on the head, stroke Aqua Seal along the back between the eyes and wrap it around the eyes, and add a dab on the underside, keeping it out of the hook eye.
