Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1XL-2XL curved caddis/nymph hook, 10-14
  • Thread Brown 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Copper bead (sized to hook)
  • Body Amber/tan dubbing (tapered, rear two-thirds)
  • Rib Gold wire (5-6 turns)
  • Thorax Dark brown/black dubbing (front third)
  • Legs Brown partridge (a few fibers, optional)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a copper bead to the eye, mount the hook and start thread.
  2. Tie in gold wire at the bend.
  3. Dub a slim, tapered amber body forward to the 65% mark, curving with the hook.
  4. Rib the wire forward in 5-6 evenly spaced turns and helicopter off the tag.
  5. Dub a darker brown thorax up to the bead.
  6. Optionally tie a few brown partridge fibers as a sparse leg beard beneath the thorax.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead.
