Reference Recipe
- Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 12-16
- Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)
Materials
- Body Peacock herl (2-3 strands)
- Wing Mottled brown hen quill (low tented slip)
- Hackle Dark furnace or black cock (4-5 turns)
How to tie it
- Mount a dry-fly hook and start black thread.
- Tie in 2-3 peacock herls at the bend, twist them into a rope and wrap a plump body to the 70% mark.
- Tie in a slip of mottled hen quill as a low, tent-style wing over the body, tips reaching the bend.
- Tie in a dark furnace or black cock hackle by the stem in front of the wing.
- Take 4-5 close turns of hackle and tie off.
- Sweep stray fibers, build a small head and whip finish.
