Hackle Whiting American rooster patch/cape, white (or Chinese saddle); webbier hackle with some body
Flash Krystal Flash, four pieces
Body Krystal Estaz, pink (pearl, chartreuse and orange also used)
Lateral scale Lateral Scale
Eyes Stick-on eyes, about 3/8, gold or silver
Adhesive Hot glue gun
How to tie it
Lay down a thread base on the hook.
Put a light touch of hot glue on the shank and press the first white hackle on, stem parallel to the shank, with the feathers sticking off the side; do the second feather the same, glued a little farther back so it joins the first, and tie them down, extending a little past the hook bend.
Loop four pieces of Crystal Flash on and tie them either side of the hackle.
Tie in pink estaz, run a light line of hot glue along the top, and wrap the estaz forward a few turns, then cut it.
Place two more hackle feathers on top, parallel over the estaz, laying a slight line of hot glue back along the feather and pressing the hackle down into it; cut behind the hook eye and tie in. Repeat on the other side, tying the feathers outwards so they flare.
Run a very light bead of hot glue along the hackle stem back to the bend and press lateral scale into it with a wet finger; trim at the back of the hackle and repeat on the other side, then wrap onto the lateral scale to secure it.
Throw a couple of whip finishes in.
Put a light dot of hot glue at the front and press on gold or silver stick-on eyes, leaving a slight gap behind the hook eye.
Build a head with the hot glue gun, filling the gap between the eyes, covering over the eyes and the gap behind them without covering the hackle; let it dry (about 15 to 20 seconds) and clean up the hook eye.
