Reference Recipe

  • Hook Heavy-wire salmon/steelhead hook, 1/0-4
  • Thread Black 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Cone Gold brass cone (6mm)
  • Underbody weight Lead-free wire (.030, 10-15 wraps)
  • Body Pearl/blue Flashabou (thin, rear 60%)
  • Wing/collar 1 Hot orange marabou (one plume, palmered)
  • Wing/collar 2 Hot pink marabou (one plume, palmered)
  • Collar Blue schlappen (2-3 turns)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the gold cone to the eye, mount the hook and start thread behind it.
  2. Wrap 10-15 turns of lead-free wire and shove them into the cone to seat it and add sink.
  3. Wrap a thin Flashabou body from the bend to the 60% mark.
  4. Palmer a marabou plume forward by the tip, stroking fibers back each turn.
  5. Palmer a second contrasting marabou plume ahead of the first.
  6. Add 2-3 turns of blue schlappen as a collar, sweeping it back.
  7. Build a small thread dam behind the cone and whip finish.
