Reference Recipe

  • Hook Heavy-wire salmon/steelhead hook, 1/0-4
  • Thread Black 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Body Pearl/blue Flashabou (thin, rear 60%)
  • Wing/collar 1 Hot orange marabou (one plume, palmered)
  • Wing/collar 2 Hot pink marabou (one plume, palmered)
  • Flash Pearl Krystal Flash (a few strands)
  • Collar Blue schlappen (2-3 turns)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at mid-shank.
  2. Wrap a thin body of pearl/blue Flashabou from the bend to the 60% mark.
  3. Tie in a marabou plume by the tip and palmer it forward, stroking the fibers back with each turn.
  4. Add a second contrasting marabou plume just ahead of the first and palmer it the same way.
  5. Work a few strands of Krystal Flash through the collar for sparkle.
  6. Finish with 2-3 turns of soft blue schlappen, sweeping it back.
  7. Build a small head and whip finish; with no cone or lead it swims high and slow.
