Alaska Flash Fly
Nymph · Salmon · Trout · Steelhead · Intermediate · 1 version
Classic Recipe
- Hook Salmon/steelhead wet hook, up-eye, 2-6
- Thread Red 6/0
Materials
- Tail Silver flashabou (1 bunch)
- Body Silver flashabou (wrapped)
- Wing Silver flashabou (1 bunch)
- Collar Dyed red hackle (1)
How to tie it
- Start thread at the bend. Tie in a bunch of silver Flashabou as a tail about one shank length long.
- Bind several strands of Flashabou at the bend and wrap them forward to sheath the shank in a bright silver body; tie off behind the collar area.
- Tie in a generous bunch of silver Flashabou over the top as a wing, extending to roughly the tail tips.
- Select a dyed red hackle and wind 3-4 turns as a wet-fly collar, then sweep the fibers back and lock them with a few thread wraps.
- Build a small neat head, whip finish and cement.
