Alaska Flash Fly

Nymph · Salmon · Trout · Steelhead · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Salmon/steelhead wet hook, up-eye, 2-6
  • Thread Red 6/0

Materials

  • Tail Silver flashabou (1 bunch)
  • Body Silver flashabou (wrapped)
  • Wing Silver flashabou (1 bunch)
  • Collar Dyed red hackle (1)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the bend. Tie in a bunch of silver Flashabou as a tail about one shank length long.
  2. Bind several strands of Flashabou at the bend and wrap them forward to sheath the shank in a bright silver body; tie off behind the collar area.
  3. Tie in a generous bunch of silver Flashabou over the top as a wing, extending to roughly the tail tips.
  4. Select a dyed red hackle and wind 3-4 turns as a wet-fly collar, then sweep the fibers back and lock them with a few thread wraps.
  5. Build a small neat head, whip finish and cement.
