Hook Eyeless (spade end) hook with a bead cord eye
Materials
Eye Bead cord loop; the tags stay as a tag at the back of the fly
Body Peacock herl, a couple of strands
Hackle Furnace rooster hackle
How to tie it
Form a loop of bead cord for the eye, tie it in at the back of the eyeless hook, and line the loop up to size with a whip finish tool, leaving the tags long.
Take a couple of strands of peacock herl, snap off the brittle end, and catch them in about halfway down the body.
Run the herl to the back, then wrap it up the body in the opposite direction to the thread wraps and tie it off.
Run the thread back and forth through the herl to lock it down, so a broken fiber can only unravel a short way.
Tie in a furnace hackle and build up a hackle on the front of the fly, then trim off.
Push the hackles back with a half-hitch tool, whip finish, trim the tags, and fluff them.
Hold the fibers out of the way and put a dab of varnish on the whip finish.
