Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3XL nymph/streamer hook, 6-12
  • Thread Brown 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (sized to hook)
  • Tail Olive-brown marabou + pearl Krystal Flash (one shank length)
  • Abdomen Olive-brown dubbing (tapered, rear half)
  • Rib Gold wire (brassie, 4-5 turns)
  • Legs Brown/olive rubber legs (two pair)
  • Thorax/collar Darker olive-brown dubbing (front half)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold bead to the eye, mount the hook and start thread.
  2. At the bend tie in a few strands of Krystal Flash and a clump of olive-brown marabou for a tail about one shank length.
  3. Tie in gold wire, then dub a tapered abdomen forward to mid-shank.
  4. Rib the wire forward in 4-5 open turns and helicopter off the tag.
  5. Set two pairs of rubber legs in the thorax area and use thread wraps to sweep them back behind the bend.
  6. Dub a fuller thorax and collar over the leg butts up to the bead.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead, then pick out the collar dubbing for movement.
