  • Hook SL11-3H or equivalent, 4-8
  • Thread Fluorescent orange flat waxed nylon

Materials

  • Body Orange chenille
  • Wing Orange craft fur flanked with 2 grizzly hackle tips

How to tie it

  1. Optionally weight the shank with wire: one layer along the shank, then a shorter layer, about half a shank length, on top.
  2. Tie in orange chenille and wind it forward for the body, stopping with about a quarter of the shank left at the front.
  3. Tie off and smooth the thread.
  4. Tie in a decent bunch of orange craft fur (calf tail or similar would do) as the wing, removing the shorter fibers, with the long fibers reaching about a shank length off the back.
  5. Tie in a small grizzly hackle tip each side, taken from the neck, about the same length as the craft fur or slightly shorter.
  6. Add a small guard (called a coral guard in the video) and finish the fly; trim the guard so it just clears the fly.
