Reference Recipe

  • Hook jig/wet nymph hook, 16-20
  • Thread fluorescent orange 70 denier / 8-0

Materials

  • Bead Metallic olive tungsten bead (1, sized to the hook)
  • Tail Dark pardo (Coq de Leon fibers)
  • Body Olive/black material (pheasant tail or thread, slim)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (fine wire (optional))
  • Wing case Brown/black wingcase feather or thin skin (Thin Skin)
  • Collar Fluorescent orange egg sac (thread hotspot)

How to tie it

  1. Slide an olive tungsten bead to the eye and mount the hook; start orange thread behind the bead.
  2. Tie in a short Coq de Leon tail about half a shank long, spread slightly.
  3. Bind a strip of Thin Skin at the thorax to pull forward later.
  4. Wrap a slim tapered olive/black body forward, counter-ribbed with fine wire if used.
  5. Build a small dubbed thorax behind the bead.
  6. Pull the Thin Skin over the thorax as a wing case and bind it behind the bead.
  7. Expose a few turns of the orange thread as a hotspot collar and whip finish behind the bead.
