Adult Wiggle Damsel

Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry front hook with hinged rear body, 10-12
  • Thread blue 70 denier

Materials

  • Wiggle body Blue macaw (dubbed/foam segment on mono loop, articulated)
  • Eyes Black ostrich herl (small mono barbell)
  • Wing Clear head cement (Zelon, spent)
  • Thorax Blue macaw (superfine dubbing)
  • Hackle Grizzly hackle (1 feather, trimmed flat below)

How to tie it

  1. Build the rear body first: dub or foam a slim blue segment on a short shank or mono loop and set it aside.
  2. Mount the front hook, start blue thread, and lash the rear body's mono loop at the bend so it hinges freely. The wiggle is the point.
  3. Figure-8 a set of mono eyes at the front of the shank.
  4. Tie in a spent Zelon wing splayed flat to each side.
  5. Dub a blue thorax around the eyes and wing.
  6. Wind 3-4 turns of grizzly hackle and trim it flat underneath.
  7. Whip finish at the eye.
