Start the Semperfli Classic Waxed thread just behind the eye, trim the tag, run it back to halfway between the point and the crushed barb, then return to the front in open wraps.
Cut a slip of MFC Foto Foam and tie it in at the front, markings up, with roughly equal amounts protruding fore and aft. Bind it down the shank and back and forth a few times to compress and lock it - the buoyancy comes from the protruding ends, not the mid-shank. Angle-cut the front short like a Chernobyl; trim the rear a little shorter on an angle, not to a point.
Square the ends of a slip of Semperfli Poly Yarn, tie it in just behind the front foam, and bind it all the way down to the rear. Cut it at about half a shank so it flares up - every later wing is measured from this cut.
Tie in the Semperfli Straggle String at the rear and bind it forward to the 1/4 point. Wind the body forward to the thread and tie it off, but do not cut it - fold it back out of the way.
Advance the thread to the midpoint and tie in a second slip of poly yarn about 3/4 the length of the tail; bind it back to the body and trim, saving the offcut for the next wing.
Bring the straggle string forward in close touching turns to the thread and tie it off, still uncut. Move to the 3/4 point and tie in a third wing about 3/4 the length of the one before; bind back and trim. Bring the body forward again, tie off, and tie in a fourth wing the same way.
At the middle of the thorax tie in two lengths of MFC Barred Sexi Floss on top, then slide one pair of legs down each side. Take the straggle string one wrap directly in front and one or two through the middle, weaving around the legs, tie it off, and now cut it away for good. Trim the legs, leaving the rear ones a little longer.
For the final wing lay a slip of poly yarn on top at the front with a couple of wraps, fold it over into a small loop like a Chubby Chernobyl wing so it binds down and stays on top, and trim it to a similar length.
Lift the front foam, get the thread underneath it, whip finish (a touch of super glue on the thread is optional), and snip.
