Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry fly, 12-16
  • Thread tan/brown 70 denier

Materials

  • Body Olive-tan material (superfine dubbing)
  • Wing Natural case (deer or elk hair, tent down-wing)
  • Hackle Brown hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the bend.
  2. Dub a slim tan-olive body to the 70% mark.
  3. Stack a deer-hair wing and bind it tent-style over the body reaching just past the bend.
  4. Wind 3-4 turns of brown hackle at the front for legs, keeping it sparse.
  5. Trim the wing butts to a short head.
  6. Whip finish at the eye.
