Wings Cream or ginger hackle points, tied spent (2)
Legs Knotted pheasant tail fibers (6-8)
Hackle Ginger or cream, oversize (1)
How to tie it
Start thread mid-shank. Tie in a length of tan poly yarn and wrap or extend it to form a slim body about one and a half shank lengths for the crane fly's long abdomen; poly yarn floats higher than Antron.
Prepare 6-8 pheasant tail fibers by tying a single overhand knot in each to form the dangling knee joints of the legs.
Tie the knotted legs in splayed out to the sides and rear, three per side, sprawling like a crane fly on the surface.
Tie in two cream hackle points flat and spent to each side as wings.
Tie in an oversize ginger hackle and wind 3-4 turns to suggest the fluttering legs and support the fly.
Whip finish and cement; a touch of floatant keeps this leggy fly riding high.
