Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry fly, 12-16
  • Thread gray 70 denier

Materials

  • Tail Grizzly and brown hackle (long mixed hackle fibers)
  • Body Adams gray (slim superfine dubbing)
  • Hackle Grizzly and brown hackle (1 each, oversized)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread.
  2. Tie a long tail of mixed grizzly and brown fibers, about 1.5 shank lengths, for balance.
  3. Dub a very slim gray body to the 75% mark.
  4. Tie in oversized grizzly and brown hackles, one to two sizes large.
  5. Wind 5-6 dense turns at the front and tie off.
  6. Whip finish at the eye.
