Adams Extended Body

Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry fly, 12-16
  • Thread gray 70 denier

Materials

  • Extended body Adams gray (dubbing or deer hair, detached)
  • Tail Dun microfibetts (microfibetts (part of the body))
  • Wing Grizzly hackle (2 hackle tips, upright divided)
  • Hackle Grizzly and brown hackle (1 each)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread mid-shank.
  2. Form a detached gray body off the back of the hook with split-tail tips extending one shank length past the bend.
  3. Bind the extended body's butt at mid-shank so it angles slightly up.
  4. Tie in divided grizzly hackle-tip wings upright at the 65% mark.
  5. Tie in grizzly and brown hackle at the wing base.
  6. Wind 4-5 hackle turns fore and aft of the wing and tie off.
  7. Whip finish at the eye.
