Start the black thread at the eye and wrap back to just round the bend; add a little wax to the thread.
Wax the darning yarn, then tie it in so the waste end lies along the full length of the body to avoid lumps.
Wind the yarn up the shank, crossing it in an X as you work up, and tie it off tightly with two or three turns of thread.
Wax the thread, strip the fluff from two brown mallard body feathers, set one on top of the other, and wax the feathers to hold them together.
Fold the feathers around the hook sides with a couple of loose turns, keeping the feather stem in the centre top of the hook, then tighten and trim the waste.
Tie in a piece of white Antron at the centre as a post, with a few turns, then post turns of thread at its base.
Tie in the grizzle and furnace hackles and post them both on the Antron at the same time.
Rub grey mole and rabbit dubbing onto the wax on the thread and dub a thorax.
Wind both hackles together down the post, parachute style, nice and tight, and tie off.
Add a little more dubbing to tidy the front, whip finish, trim the post to length as a sighter, and optionally add a touch of resin or varnish to the tip.
