Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry fly, 12-18
  • Thread gray 70 denier

Materials

  • Body Muskrat gray (superfine dubbing)
  • Hackle Grizzly hackle (1 feather, palmered)
  • Wing Natural case (deer or elk hair)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start gray thread at the bend.
  2. Tie in a grizzly hackle by the tip at the bend.
  3. Dub a slim gray body forward to the 75% mark.
  4. Palmer the hackle forward in 5-6 open turns and tie off.
  5. Stack a deer-hair wing and bind it as a down-wing tent reaching just past the bend, butts forward.
  6. Trim the butts to a short head and whip finish at the eye.
