Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Short-shank wide-gap saltwater hook (Gamakatsu SC15), 1/0-2/0
  • Thread To match (e.g. blue) 210 denier (Danville)

Materials

  • EP craft fur brush, 3 in Tan/chartreuse or to match ep craft fur brush in (tail + collar)
  • EP Minnow Head brush, 1.5 in To match ep minnow head brush in (head)
  • Plastic minnow eyes Yellow/to match material (1 pair, 4.5 mm)
  • Zap-A-Gel / UV resin Clear uv resin (eyes + finish)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread at the eye and wrap back to where the shank starts to level out, roughly above the point/barb.
  2. Tie in the end of the 3 in EP craft fur brush, then advance the thread to about the midpoint of the shank.
  3. Palmer the craft fur brush forward about eleven or twelve close turns to the midpoint, forming the tail and collar; tie off and trim the excess brush wire.
  4. Tie in the 1.5 in EP minnow head brush at the midpoint and palmer it forward about ten or eleven turns to the eye, splitting and sweeping the fibers back as you go; tie off.
  5. Whip finish at the eye and trim the thread.
  6. Brush and comb out all the fibers, then razor-trim the sides, bottom, and a little off the top to shape a flat-sided baitfish/minnow profile.
  7. Put a small dab of gel on each side, set a 4.5 mm eye in place with a bodkin, and finish the head with a coat of thin UV resin.
