Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry fly, 12-18
  • Thread gray 70 denier

Materials

  • Tail Dark dun material (hackle fibers)
  • Body Gray flotation (stripped/dyed peacock quill)
  • Post White uni stretch (calf body hair)
  • Hackle Grizzly and brown hackle (1 each)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start gray thread.
  2. Tie in a bunch of dun hackle fibers for the tail, one shank length long.
  3. Post an upright white calf-hair wing at the 65% mark and wrap a thread base to stand it up.
  4. Wind a soaked stripped quill forward to the post for a crisp segmented body, then coat it lightly with head cement.
  5. Tie in grizzly and brown hackles at the post base.
  6. Wind 4-5 parachute turns around the post, best turns on top, and tie off under the wing.
  7. Whip finish at the eye, clearing the hackle.
