How to tie it
Lay a thread base from the eye back to the start of the bend.
Tie in 3-4 peacock sword fibers (not herl) at the bend for a long tail. Don't worry if the fibers splay in different directions.
At about the midpoint, catch in a single thick strand of peacock herl by its butt end for the rib, then run the thread forward to just behind the eye.
Tie in the burlap strand up front, wrap thread back over it to the tail, then wrap the burlap forward in touching turns to form a slightly thick, fuzzy body; tie off and trim with old scissors.
Spiral the peacock herl forward as a rib in 5-6 open turns, tie off, and break away the excess.
Tie in 3-4 more peacock sword fibers on top as the wing, roughly the length of the tail.
Prepare a pheasant rump feather by grasping the tip to form a tie-in point; tie it in by the tip, fold the tip back over itself, and lock it down.
Wrap the rump feather 2-3 turns as a swept-back collar, using every fiber on the feather; tie off the bare stem and trim.
Pull all the collar fibers back and around the sides and bottom, then build a generous streamer head over their bases.
