Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry fly, 12-16
  • Thread tan 70 denier

Materials

  • Body Tan/olive carapace (superfine dubbing)
  • Overbody Tan carapace (thin foam strip)
  • Wing Natural case (deer hair)
  • Hackle Brown hackle (1 feather (optional))

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start tan thread.
  2. Dub a slim tan body from the bend to the 65% mark.
  3. Lay a thin tan foam strip over the back and bind it at the front for a high-floating shell.
  4. Stack a clump of deer hair and tie it as a down-wing tent reaching just past the bend.
  5. Optionally palmer 3-4 turns of brown hackle at the thorax for legs.
  6. Snip the wing butts to a short head and whip finish at the eye.
