Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL dry/hopper hook, 8-14
  • Thread yellow (or to match) 70 denier GSP

Materials

  • Body Yellow mcflylon (2mm foam strip)
  • Underbody Purple arctic fox (UV ice dub)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (few strands Krystal Flash)
  • Wing Natural case (bull elk hair)
  • Hackle Grizzly hackle (1 feather, palmered)
  • Legs Black ostrich herl (rubber legs (optional))

How to tie it

  1. Mount the long hook and start thread at the bend.
  2. Bind a strip of 2mm foam at the bend to anchor the extended body base, leaving it pointing back.
  3. Dub a shaggy purple ice-dub abdomen forward to the 60% mark.
  4. Pull the foam over the top and bind it down to segment the body, then tie in a grizzly hackle.
  5. Add a few strands of Krystal Flash, then stack and tie a bull elk wing reaching the bend.
  6. Dub a thorax, palmer the hackle forward through it, and tie off.
  7. Figure-8 a set of rubber legs at the thorax if desired, then build the head and whip finish.
