Materials

  • Hook Fire Hole 419 #16
  • Thread 8/0 dark tan thread
  • Tails Synthetic plant (fake grass fibres)
  • Body Nature Spirit Turkey Biot / light olive
  • Wing Hareline CDC / Brown
  • Indicator Antron, pulled apart wispy
  • Thorax Arizona Semi Seal / Dark Olive
  • Hackle Whiting Farms Bugger Pack / Grizzly
  • Finish Solarez Bone Dry UV resin

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread on the hook.
  2. Tie in tails of synthetic plant about a hook length long, thread them down to the bend and spread them.
  3. Tie in the turkey biot at the back and wrap it forward for the body, stopping short of the eye to leave room.
  4. Tie in a grizzly hackle sized to the hook.
  5. Put two pieces of brown CDC together, trim, and tie in as the wing; adjust it with loose wraps then lock it down and trim the excess.
  6. Tie in a thin, wispy piece of Antron on top as an indicator and trim it to about the wing height.
  7. Dub a small amount of dark olive Arizona semi-seal for the thorax.
  8. Prune the wing back, take a turn or two behind it to make it stand up, then wrap the hackle one to three turns, tie off and trim.
  9. Pull back the hackle fibres and form a small head, then whip finish.
  10. Clean up any stragglers and finish with UV resin cured with a light.
