Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry fly, 18-22
  • Thread olive dun 70 denier / 8-0

Materials

  • Shuck/tail Dun microfibetts (Zelon or split microfibetts)
  • Body Olive-gray material (turkey biot or superfine dubbing)
  • Wing Fluorescent (hi-vis) (short tuft of para post material)
  • Collar Dun microfibetts (CDC clump)
  • Hackle Grizzly dyed dun hackle (1 feather, trimmed flat below)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread.
  2. Tie a sparse dun shuck or split microfibett tail one shank length long.
  3. Wrap a slim olive-gray biot body forward to the 70% mark, shiny side out for segmentation.
  4. Tie in a short hi-vis wing tuft upright at the thorax so you can track the fly.
  5. Fold a dun CDC clump around the wing base for a low, buggy silhouette.
  6. Wind 2-3 turns of dun hackle at the thorax, then trim the bottom flat so the fly rides in the film.
  7. Whip finish at the eye.
