3D Glass Blood

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Curved scud/grub hook, 10-14
  • Thread Red 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Glass bead (red or clear) (1)
  • Body Red tying thread, floss or stretch tubing (wrapped)
  • Rib Fine silver/pearl wire (1)
  • Coating UV/epoxy resin over body (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a glass bead to the eye and start red thread at the bend; tie in fine wire for the rib.
  2. Build a slim, slightly curved red body of thread or stretch tubing following the hook bend to mimic the wiggling shape of a bloodworm (chironomid larva).
  3. Counter-rib with the wire in 5-7 open turns for segmentation.
  4. Coat the whole body with UV or epoxy resin and cure for a wet, translucent, glassy blood-red finish that sinks quickly.
  5. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
