Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry fly, 16-18
  • Thread pale yellow 70 denier

Materials

  • Tail Light dun wing bud (microfibetts, split)
  • Body Pale yellow-olive material (PMD superfine dubbing)
  • Post White uni stretch (poly yarn)
  • Hackle Light dun hackle (1 feather)
  • Thorax Pale yellow-olive material (superfine dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start pale thread.
  2. Tie in a few dun microfibetts one shank length long, then split them into a narrow V for a stable float.
  3. Post a white poly wing upright at the 65% mark and anchor it with a thread base.
  4. Dub a slim pale-yellow body from the bend to the post.
  5. Tie in a dun hackle at the post, then dub the thorax around its base.
  6. Wind 4-5 hackle turns down the post and tie off beneath it.
  7. Whip finish at the eye.
